Abstract

Serotonin syndrome (SS) is a life-threatening drug-induced condition associated with increased levels of excess free serotonin in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. While the literature on adult SS continues to unfold, there is a dearth of studies examining SS within the pediatric population. Utilizing a chart review of patients admitted to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) for suicide attempt by overdose over a 1-year period, we sought to examine these risk factors and correlates of pediatric SS.
