Abstract

Disgust is a negative emotional response to a physically or morally offensive stimulus. Studies that examine disgust within the context of OCD and anxiety have identified disgust propensity (DP) and sensitivity (DS) as two constructs that are differentially associated with diagnoses. DP has been defined as the likelihood an individual will feel disgust, and DS has been defined as the degree to which an individual is distressed by disgust. Although existing instruments tend to assess DP and DS in the context of specific diagnoses, only the Disgust Propensity and Sensitivity Scale-Revised (DPSS-R) transdiagnostically measures both constructs. To date, it has only been validated with an adult, nonclinical sample group. We aimed to validate the DPSS-R for youth with OCD and anxiety disorders and hypothesized that its two-factor structure would be confirmed.
