Abstract

Recent-onset psychosis often has a suboptimal therapeutic outcome as a result of early treatment discontinuation and poor adherence to treatment. These patients will gain the most by attaining remission and have the most to lose through relapse (eg, in terms of education or employment). Long-acting injectable antipsychotic (LAI) drug use addresses the issue of and ensures adherence. The aim of our study was to review the existing literature on LAI drug use in recent-onset psychosis to meta-analyze the results and to find whether early treatment in terms of illness duration and age affect the outcome.
