Abstract

Suicide is the second leading cause of death in adolescents, but training in suicide assessment and care is often insufficient. Additionally, there are limited data regarding the effects of training. Safe Alternatives for Teens and Youths Acute (SAFETY-A) is an intervention designed to increase safety in youth presenting to emergency departments. We examined changes in confidence level in assessing and addressing suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs) before and after SAFETY-A training in an urban public hospital.
