Abstract

The structure of an alkaloid isolated from Rhizoctonia leguminicola, which was previously assigned as 3,4.5-trihydroxyoctahydro-1-pyrindine, has now been revised to (1S,2R,8R,8aR)-1,2,8-trihydroxyoctahydroindolizine. The alkaloid is identical with swainsonine, obtained from the legume Swainsona canescens, and is a potent inhibitor of α-mannosidase.
