Abstract

AbstractThe 1H NMR spectrum of 10‐dimethylaminononafulvene (2) has been analysed under high‐resolution conditions at low temperature. Chemical shifts and 27 non‐zero J values are reported. None of the parameters are significantly influenced by changes in solvent or temperature. The results indicate that 2 is not planar, and contains two sterically very different ring segments: a nearly planar (E)‐configurated dienamine system consisting of atoms N—(C‐10)—(C‐9)—(C‐8)—(C‐7) is linked to a triene system deviating strongly from planarity.
