Abstract
The 1H and 13C NMR spectra of a series of eight hexenones and heptenones obtained from the self-condensation of butan-2-one were assigned using the γ-gauche effect and two-dimensional NMR spectral techniques. The compounds characterized are (E/Z)-5-methyl-4-hepten-3-one, (E/Z)-5-methyl-5-hepten-3-one, (E/Z)-3,4- dimethyl-3-hexen-2-one and (E/Z)-3,4-dimethyl-4-hexen-2-one.
