Abstract

This paper describes a method for high-accuracy position and orientation detection in Two-Dimensional Communication networks. Two-Dimensional Communication (2DC) is a technology which enables a wireless and battery-less network environment on a thin sheet. By detecting position and orientation of devices on the sheet, we can realize a "wireless, battery-less, and location-aware" environment. Our position and orientation detection method is based on capacitance measurement. In this paper, we report about prototyping of our positioning sensor. The prototype sensor can identify its position and orientation with positional errors under 4 mm and rotational errors under 3 deg in our experiment.
