Abstract

We have constructed a fully automated, self-calibrating pH measurement system capable of consecutively measuring 96 samples, using a flow-through type differential ion-sensitive field effect transistor (ISFET) sensor. Measuring conditions was operated 135 sec consisting of 60 sec of washing period, 20 sec of waiting/moving period, 3 sec of suctioning period, and 52 sec of measuring period. In measuring period, about 26μL of sample solution was withdrawn to the space around a measurement ISFET, and the change of differential source potential was measured. The measurement error of multiple sample measurements, including measurements of solutions with low buffering capacity, was 0.01 pH order. Through these experiments, high-speed and automated pH measurement will be possible by using ISFET sensors even for sample solutions of low buffer capacity.
