Abstract

The purpose of this study was to discuss current academic researches and developing tendency on mountaineering in Taiwan area. The targets were these and dissertations and academic periodicals in a recent decade. Literature was reviewed and analyzed by content analysis method, and the results were registered in the self-made chart, Content Analysis Chart on Mountaineering Researches in Taiwan Area from 1999 to 2008. With the statistic analysis, the findings were as follows: 1. There were few theses on mountaineering, averaging 10.5 ones per year. But the average growing rate was 1.44, showing the increasing amounts of mountain hiking researcher. 2. National Taiwan Normal University, National Taiwan University, Dayeh University, and National Taiwan Sport University were the institutes that had the most amounts of theses on mountaineering. 3. On research topics, mountain hikers' characteristics were discussed more often (57.1), followed by mountaineering education, mountaineering system, and mountaineering environment. From the interaction analysis between research topics and time periods, the research topic on mountain hikers' characteristics was increasing. 4. Most of the research items were psychological characteristics, social behavior, and mountaineering culture. 5. Most of the research targets were mountain hikers. 6. Quantity researches were the most used as study design. 7. Questionnaires were the most frequently applied methodology. 8. Self-made/revised research tools were applied more frequently.
