Abstract

John Williams is Professor and Head of the Department of Law at University of Wales, Aberystwyth. His main research interest is law and social work, with special reference to vulnerable adults. In addition, he is consultant to the British Association for Service to the Elderly and provides legal training for social services departments in England and Wales. His most recent publicatiotis include 'The inappropriate adult', Journal of Social Welfare and Family Law, 2000; 'The Crime and Dis order Act 1998: Conflicting roles for the appropriate adult', Criminal Law Review, 2000; and 'Should we have a new law on vulnerable adult abuse?' Registered Homes and Services, 2001. From 1993 to 1999 he was a member of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.
