Abstract

Greetings and Happy Holidays! Although most of you will not receive this issue until after the holidays, I want to extend best wishes to all of you and wish you a successful, rewarding and happy new year. NABT has had a good year. The Association just completed one of its most successful Conventions, the membership is growing, and we have paid off the office mortgage and initiated a contract to buy an additional unit adjacent to our present office complex. This unit will provide much needed office space for our 16-member staff. Our largest Convention to date was held in Boston, in November. The Convention registration exceeded 2500, and there were 115 exhibit booths. Further, NABT has positioned itself for rapid growth and continued expansion of Convention and workshop activities. This year, approximately 350 sessions were held, an increase of over 100 from last year. Many of the sessions were filled to capacity. Highlights of the Convention---while too numerous to identify in this short report--included presentations from two Nobel Prize winners, numerous world-recognized biologists (many from Boston educational and research institutions), and Clinical Psychologist Dr. Nancy Wexler who was presented our 1993 Distinguished Service Award. At the Convention, I met with many biology teachers and discussed trends in biology education and how NABT might better respond to their needs. I am pleased to report that the publications produced by NABT, plus the award-winning journal and an outstanding Convention, stand out as fulfilling many needs of our members. As I look back over the year and evaluate the progress made on my goal statements, I want to extend my thanks to all who helped to accomplish the tasks that I identified for 1993. Specifically, I set out to accomplish three tasks:
