Abstract

This study analyzes the shifts in the characteristics of housing supply and exterior shapes of Korea"s urban detached houses from the 1970s to the 2010s. This study was conducted through a literature review that focused on a particular set of detached houses’ exterior characteristics, including elevations (mass), roofs, exterior wall materials, and windows. During the time period of the 1970s to 2010s, the most common method for linkage with neighboring areas was the classification into 10-year units and the consideration of characteristics. As a result of the literature review, it was confirmed that the urban detached houses continued to exist, due to the fact that regulations were changed in line with the supply policy, therefore leading to new housing types being created or modified. This study is significant in its more focused consideration of the trends in the characteristics of urban detached houses since the 2000s, and hopes to recognize the current position of modern detached houses, thereby serving as the basis for the future direction of development.
