Abstract

During the war of resistance against Japan from 1937 to 1945,the policies of military resistance and national reconstruction brought together the power of the people to accomplish national revival. In order to explore and provide reasonable interpretation of Chinese physical education philosophy during the war, this paper makes use of related literature contemporary of the period. Quantitative and qualitative approaches are both also used to analyze content. The main results are as follows: 1. The original sources of Chinese physical education philosophy during the war of resistance against Japan arise from the period of national crisis, the need for long-term war policy, critical awareness of the physical make-up of the armed forces personnel, trends in international youth training, the influence of national military education, and awareness of national spiritual education. 2. Influenced by Chinese physical education philosophy during this period, national military education, national spiritual education, and national health education were formed. They henceforth developed in the following combinations: physical education and military education; physical education and training education; and physical education and public health education. These combinations strongly influenced the rise of both military physical education and public physical education.
