Abstract
1935 was a watershed year for American anesthesiology. John Lundy, working with the American Medical Association (AMA), attempted to start a second journal in the specialty in the United States. After canvassing the leaders of the specialty, he was convinced that there was not enough support for the publication. Lundy also tried to obtain a Section on Anesthesia within the annual meeting of the AMA. The section was a necessary prerequisite for a board to certify specialists in anesthesiology. Likewise, this effort was not successful.
