Abstract

Instability characteristics generated with partial flow rate in a mixed-flow pump have bad influence during the pump operation. In this paper, Performance and the internal flow of two impellers in which blade loading distributions differ of the blade tip in the mixed flow pump were examined experimentally and numerically Furthermore, the diffusion factor and the Taylor's pressure coefficient of near the blade tip were calculated from numerical results As a result, stall mechanism of instability characteristics was different between two impellers Instability characteristic is considered that wall stall m the impeller of fore-loading, and both wall stall and blade stall in the impeller of aft-loading. In addition, a reverse flow suddenly developed at the impeller inlet tip side with the decrease of the flow rate in the impeller of fore-loading, but it was shown clearly that the reverse flow did not suddenly develop in the impeller of aft-loading
