Abstract
Since the introduction of basketball into China in 1895, Tian Jin has been one of the key cities in the development of basketball. Through various organizations and basketball clubs, Tian Jin gains the reputation as the basketball city in the 20's and 30's. Under such rapid development, the needs for basketball were huge. Due to the highly priced imported balls and the ever increasing thirst, Tian Jin had decided to manufacture its very own basketball to provide reasonably priced balls to the consumers. Two reputable companies collectively manufacture balls for the locals and in the mean time produce high quality match balls. In the 20's and 30's Tian Jin basketball development had directly spurred the basketball development in the national level. Besides, Tian Jin leaded many factories into the manufacturing basketballs that rivals imported balls in terms of quantity and quality. This mass production had effectively fulfilled the local basketball needs in a reasonably priced way. Conclusively, 20's and 30's are the golden era of China basketball. From the lights of Tian Jin, we observe its impact on the modern basketball development in China from the aspect of the manufacturing of sporting equipment. Such strong link between sports and manufacturing is indeed unprecedented.
