Abstract

Polymeric nanoparticle has acquired recognition in the management of various life-threatening diseases. Polymer like chitosan possesses remarkable properties like biocompatibility, biodegradability, mucoadhesion, and low toxicity, making it an ideal candidate for drug delivery. Optimizing the formulation factors such as drug loading, particle size, zeta potential, molecular weight, chain length, and pH to assess the drug release and pharmacological responses of the drug product is a tedious task to perform conventionally. Artificial neural network (ANN) models predict and optimize these parameters saving time and expensive experimental investigation in various manufacturing processes to get better therapeutic responses. Here in this chapter, we will take a deep insight of the chitosan nanoparticles, effect of different parameters on preparation methods, application of various simulation, and predictive models like ANN in optimization, characterization, and biomedical applications in the fields of brain drug delivery, vaccine delivery, cancer treatment, and treatment of inflammatory diseases.
