Abstract

This study analyzed the impact of COVID-19 on the social relations satisfaction of occupants living in affordable housing by using panel surveys of public rental housing in Seoul. For comparison before and after COVID-19, the results of multiple regression analysis using data from 2019 and 2021 are as follows. First, it was found that the demand for medical facilities increased and the time spent at home increased due to restrictions on social activities, which was noticeable for the socially disadvantaged, such as the elderly and the disabled. Second, it has been confirmed that factors that directly affect social activities and factors that provide overall convenience in life continue to affect before and after COVID-19. Lastly, COVID-19 not only changed the level of functional demands expected for housing, but also reduced social external activities, temporarily reducing the needs for transportation and exchange. Thus, further efforts to supply affordable housing are required to meet the changed social needs and occupants' expectations due to COVID-19.
