Abstract

The species of oxygen on Bi2MoO6 catalyst which are active in the oxidation of propene and but-1-ene have been investigated using an 18O tracer. Both on the catalyst surface and in the bulk oxide the active species of oxygen are classified into two independent types. One species abstracts hydrogen from the olefin and the other adds exclusively to the intermediate to form the oxygenated product.
