Abstract

Flowmeter, especially orifice flowmeter, is one of the most important devices in process industry. Since the most frequent problem of orifice flowmeter at the operation site is the impulse line blockage, the diagnostics of impulse line blockage is required. In this paper, the effectiveness of two diagnostic methods, based on the pressure fluctuation and based on the delay of pressure transmission, are demonstrated. Though both methods work well in the steady state, the diagnostic method based on pressure fluctuation is getting more difficult to diagnose the blockage with increase of the pressure change rate. On the other hand, the diagnostic method based on the delay of pressure transmission is not influenced by increase of the pressure change rate, however, this method needs more computing resource. Hence, it is necessary to choose the diagnostic method in consideration of computing resource of field device and pressure change rate.
