Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter describes various reaction schemes applied to a simple galactoside and also gives an example of this reaction sequence applied to a triantennary glycopeptide. This chapter also discusses the conversion of methyl β-D-Galactopyranoside to Methyl 6-Deoxy-6-amino-β-D-galactopyranoside.A detailed account of such preparations, including attachment of a photolyzable group and an actual photoaffinity labeling experiment, has been described in this chapter. The example given in this chapter shows the feasibility of attaching a photo activatable group at the new 6-NH 2 group. A reagent prepared by this method had proved useful in the investigation of mammalian hepatic Gal/GalNAc receptors. This chapter concludes with a brief discussion on modification of terminal galactosyl residues of triantennary glycopeptide.
