Abstract

Abstract A series of mixed metal carbonyl cluster compounds of R2Sn[M(CO)x][M′(CO)y] and R2Sn[M(CO)x][M′(CO)yCp] were synthesized and their 17O NMR spectra were measured to demonstrate how 17O NMR spectroscopy is superior to IR spectroscopy to study the electronic nature of the oxygen atoms in CO groups. For these mixed metal clusters, 17O NMR spectral assignments were easily made and the electron distribution around the O atoms was concluded to be only slightly changed compared with those of homo-dinuclear R2Sn[M(CO)x]2 and R2Sn[M′(CO)yCp]2.
