Abstract

THE elements heavier than those in the iron abundance peak have been divided into three groups1: s-process isotopes (formed by slow radiative capture of neutrons), r-process isotopes (formed by rapid radiative capture of neutrons) and p-process isotopes, which are rarer proton-rich isotopes formed by a still poorly understood mechanism which probably involves (p,γ) and (γ,n) reactions1.
