Abstract

Acute retinal necrosis (ARN) syndrome, also known as acute herpetic retinitis, is a rare disorder occurring most commonly in immunocompetent adults. The most common etiologic agent is varicella zoster virus, followed by herpes simplex viruses (types 1 and 2) and, very rarely, cytomegalovirus.
