Abstract
The question as to whether signals related to eye position and/or movements can be used in directing the hand at a visual target was raised. Apparently conflicting data were obtained from Ss with paralysis of extrinsic ocular muscles where the final hand position seemed to be influenced by an exaggerated oculomotor output, and from normal Ss where the final hand position appeared to be unrelated to oculomotor signals. It is thought that these extra-retinal signals only contribute minimally in eye-hand coordination and that their contribution may become apparent in situations where the available cues for directing the hand at a visual goal are reduced.
