Abstract

This chapter discusses the control of electrical components' quality. Quality is of prime importance to a customer and few suppliers will not claim to be striving for good quality. Most spend considerable time and resources on activities such as testing and inspection to detect and correct defective products. In addition, they have a large section that can speedily deal with any problems found during operational service. However, it cannot ensure that quality is guaranteed. It is a form of quality control—a technique that sustains product quality to the specified requirements. Quality control is a subset of quality assurance, the latter being the key to efficient attainment of quality. Quality assurance involves the whole of an organization and covers all the activities concerned with the attainment of the product's quality. Management objectives should be closely linked to each market where an identifiable need exists. This requires an examination to determine for each product range the market entry and selling factors relating to quality, price, reliability, delivery, etc.
