Abstract

Prior to orthognathic surgery a wafer may be constructed. Its use is well established in orthognathic surgery where it is used for setting the jaws when osteotomies are performed. However, inaccuracies of this technique have been well documented in the literature. Whilst uncommon, in some cases the use of intra-operative wafers is abandoned to achieve optimal outcomes. We aimed to assess outcomes of two techniques that are part of our routine practice; intraoperative positioning of the jaws and teeth relative to one another, in comparison to using an intraoperative wafer.
