Abstract
OLED (Organic Light Emitting Display) microdisplay is useful in near‐to‐eye applications like head mounted virtual reality displays and glass‐like augmented reality displays. With its ultra‐high pixel density above 3000 PPI (pixel per inch), the OLED microdisplay has very high display resolution while its physical size is rather small, typically less than one inch. Traditional microdisplay are analog driven with the serial scan sequential from the first pixel to the last pixel. This paper proposes a novel atomized scan strategy based on the digital fractal scan strategy with the pseudo‐random scan order. A color OLED microdisplay with 1600(*3)*1600 display resolution is designed and fabricated. It is driven with the digital atomized scan strategy. The test results show that the gray level of the microdisplay reaches 256 with the 50MHz pixel clock. The contrast and the power of the microdisplay are improved compared with the traditional analog drive OLED microdisplay.
