Abstract

It is necessary to measure longitudinal and lateral velocity components for the study of boundary layer of boundary layer in a transitional region. However, it is difficult to measure simultaneously these velocity components because a transitional boundary-layer thickness is very thin. Therefore, we manufactured a new hot-wire anemometer with two wires placed parallel and close to each other. The main feature of this probe is extremely small compared with hot-wire probe existed, such as X- and V-type probes, in vertical size, and can be easily treated similar to I-type probe. We measured a turbulent boundary layer flow of low Reynolds number using this probe. As a result, we found that this probe is very useful for the boundary layer flow measurements because the velocity profiles are obtained with sufficient accuracy using the simple correction terms.
