Abstract

Linnaeus, in his Species Plantarum (vol. 1. 1753), described two different species under the name Mimosa cinerea, at Mimosa species number 10 on page 517 and again at number 25 on page 520. In the second edition of Species Plantarum he renamed species 10 as Mimosa cineraria L. (Sp. PI., ed. 2, 2: 1500. 1763) and retained the name M. cinerea for the other species (now no. 28). Presently, the original species 25 is placed in the genus Dichrostachys as D. cinerea (L.) Wight & Am. (Prodr. Fl. Ind. Orient.: 271. 1834) and species 10 is placed in the genus Prosopis as P cineraria (L.) Druce (in Bot. Exch. Club Soc. Brit. Isles 3: 422. 1914), based on Mimosa cineraria L.
