Abstract

To evaluate fluctuation and surface irregularities of the famous artist's bowl and other analytical objects, an analytical procedure was developed by applying the concept of fractals and the Richardson effect. The geometrical irregularity of the surface was evaluated by combining the fractal dimension D and FFT parameters. Results indicated that the famous artist's bowl has a fractal nature and relative self-similarity in wide resolution ranges. Fractal dimensions and the nature of relaxation were related quantitatively as D=2.40. To produce a trial product that has a fractal nature and self-similarity, a numerical program was used to draw an irregular surface on a CRT screen.
