Abstract
This chapter covers the commonest conventions used in scientific writing. It gives guidelines for the following: placement of titles of figures and tables; numbering of illustrations, sections, pages, appendices and equations; writing numbers in the text; referring in the text to figures, tables, chapters, table rows or columns and pages; formatting equations in the text; style for headings; SI units; and genus and species names.
