Abstract

The consumption of beer is closely related to human affect. An individual's current mood state has been shown to act as an internal stimulus eliciting the urge to drink alcohol, thus activating positive outcome expectancies and drinking motives. An individual's beliefs regarding the effects of beer determine his or her labeling of mood states following the consumption of beer. The attribution of the perceived changes in current mood state to the effects of beer strengthens both an individual's alcohol expectancies and his or her drinking motives.
