Abstract
The objective of this presentation is to describe the Family Talk intervention, its dissemination, and various funding mechanisms used in different countries to support its use. Family Talk is a preventive intervention, incorporating cognitive-behavioral prevention, for children and adolescents in families with parental depression. An NIMH-supported randomized trial of indicated prevention with adolescents at high risk for depression because of parental depression and prior depressive symptoms found that the intervention is effective, with decreased depression symptoms, as well as increased understanding of the parents’ illness and family functioning, with effects persisting over 6 years.
