Abstract

In 2016, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that youth ages 13 to 24 years accounted for 21% of all new HIV diagnoses in the United States. YMHP is a research-based intervention with four counseling sessions delivered in person or over the phone. This intervention was found to be effective in reducing substance use and sexual health risks in controlled research settings. The study team (PRIDE from Hunter College, New York City) wanted to test this intervention in real world settings, community-based clinics and sexual health agencies. Prior to implementation of the intervention, the study team conducted focus groups at three different sites, where the intervention was funded to take place, to gain insights from youth ages 15 to 24 about intervention implementation.
