Abstract

Many studies have investigated predictors of poor outcome for back pain in younger adults. However, there is little information on risk factors for persistent back pain and disability specifically in older adults. We conducted a prospective cohort study using the Back pain Outcomes using Longitudinal Data (BOLD) registry. BOLD enrolled 5,239 adults ≥65 years with a new primary care visit for back pain. We analyzed 3671 participants with both 12 month outcomes and 24 months of electronic medical record data.
