Abstract
Optical pulses with a repetition rate of 154 GHz are generated directly from a polarisation-maintaining dispersion-managed fibre ring laser using fourth-order FM modelocking. External chirp compensation of the laser output yields transform-limited Gaussian pulses with 1.1 ps duration corresponding to a duty cycle of < 0.2.
