Abstract
Dynamic performance analysis (DPA) is a task-oriented, performance-based approach to occupational performance analysis that is centred on the person’s actual performance of an occupation or activity. The purpose of DPA is to identify a person’s performance problems or breakdowns. The analysis process focuses on the dynamic transaction of the activity, person and environment relative to the person’s performance of the activity and not on the components necessary for that performance. The DPA process (depicted by a decision tree) begins by observing the person perform the activity and identifying whether performance is competent or not, taking note of the errors or breakdowns. For each performance breakdown, an iterative analysis process is undertaken that considers the person, the activity and the environmental context. Two practice stories, with illustrated decision trees, are presented to guide the reader through this iterative analysis process.
