Abstract

The 1.5 – 2.1 μm luminescence germanate glass and double-clad optical fibers co-doped with Yb3+/Ho3+, Tm3+/Ho3+, Yb3+/Tm3+/Ho3+, and Er3+/Tm3+/Ho3+ have been analyzed. Fabricated germanium based glasses and optical fibers due to low phonon energy (805 cm−1) and high transparency up to 5.5 μm range enable to achieve broadband emission corresponding to radiative transitions of Er3+: 4I 13/2 → 4I 13/2 , Tm3+: 3F 4 → 3H 6 and Ho3+: 5I 7 →5I 8 . Maximum FWHM was obtained for following RE content: 563 nm – 0.7Er 2 O 3 /0.35Tm 2 O 3 /0.035Ho 2 O 3 (bulk glass), 265 nm – 0.7Tm 2 O 3 /0.15Ho 2 O 3 (bulk glass) and 337 nm – 0.7Yb 2 O 3 /0.15Ho 2 O 3 /0.4Tm 2 O 3 (double-clad optical fiber).
