Abstract

EPR, ENDOR, and TRIPLE resonance measurements performed on radicals of some azaaromatic compounds in liquid ammonia are reported. Both proton and nitrogen resonances could be observed in the ENDOR spectra. The optimum experimental conditions for the detection of these nuclei are discussed on the basis of relaxation theory. The relative signs of hyperfine coupling constants are determined by general TRIPLE resonance and by the interpretation of cross-relaxation effects observed in the ENDOR spectra. The suitability of liquid ammonia as a solvent in ENDOR measurements is investigated. Subsequeny reactions of primarily generated radical anions of the azaaromatic compounds are briefly discussed.
