Abstract

Currently, there exists active debate surrounding the criterion for diagnosis of GDM. While some suggest potential for over-diagnosing healthy gravidae, others argue risk of undertreatment. Given the crucial regulatory role of the placenta in glucose uptake and modulation of metabolism, molecular characterization of gene expression could lead to the identification of novel biomarkers to improve diagnosis and management of diabetes in pregnancy. We previously applied whole transcriptome RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) and robust computational analysis to a discovery cohort (n=27).
