Abstract

tumor foci detected, as well as their corresponding cumulative tumor volume with biopsy findings. Cumulative total tumor volume (TTV) was calculated by adding all tumor volumes. RESULTS: Whole-mount analysis identified 59 cancers, corresponding to 110 tumor foci and a cumulative TTV of 44.6 cm3. Of the 110 tumor foci, 25 (23%), 40 (36%) and 47 (43%) were detected with MPZ, MPZ plus LPZ, and all 18 biopsies, respectively. The corresponding cumulative tumor volume detected was of 17.9, 22.4 and 31.8 cm3, respectively. Although CZ biopsies detected only 7 additional tumor foci, these foci represented 21% of the cumulative TTV. Of the 59 cancers, 18 (30%), 31 (52%) and 32 (54%) were detected with MPZ, MPZ plus LPZ, and all 18 biopsies, respectively. The overall cumulative tumor volume of the 32 cancers detected was of 37.5 cm3 (84% of the total cumulative volume of cancer). A 12-core biopsy protocol triggering the MPZ and LPZ performed best for cancer detection. Biopsies triggering the CZ detected only 7 additional foci but almost 1⁄4 of the overall cumulative TTV.
