Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common female cancer and the second cause of death among women worldwide. Screening attendance is associated with a mortality reduction of at least 30% and a 40% lower risk of advanced disease. In Libya, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. It is also the most common cause of cancer deaths. Unfortunately, most of the patients present with advanced disease, probably because there is no national breast cancer screening program in Libya. Pilot studies are small-scale, preliminary studies that aim to investigate whether crucial components of the main study – such as screening programs– will be feasible.
