Abstract

Background: Melanoma eludes immunologic destruction, in part, through induction of immunosuppressive regulatory T cells (Tregs). Thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) is an inducible matricellular protein with roles in cell-adhesion, migration and inflammation and has recently been found to generate Tregs. We hypothesized that melanoma induces Tregs through secreted TSP-1. Methods: Melanoma-conditioned media (MCM) was generated from cell-free supernatant from a metastatic melanoma cell line (A375) and was probed for TSP-1 by Western blot.
