Abstract

Firearm violence is the leading causes of homicide in the United States, and is the third leading cause of death for adults aged 15-34. Longitudinal, linked data on firearm injuries is needed to permit more nuanced research and interventions for survivors of a firearm injury. State-wide trauma registries do not reliably capture patients who are discharged directly from the ED without a trauma service evaluation. The St. Louis Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program Data Repository (STL-HVIP-DR) launched in 2018.
