Abstract

Neonatal exposure to Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is known to program neuroendocrine-immune function. How this affects pain sensitivity later in life is the focus of this study. Rats were subjected to either LPS ( salmonella enteriditis , 0.05 mg/kg, ip) or saline (equivolume) on postnatal days (PND) 3 and 5. At PND 22 and PND 80–92, rats were subjected to the formalin test. Brains and plasma were obtained 1hr post behavioural testing. IL1b was measured in plasma and hippocampus. Hypothalamic mineralocorticoid (MR) and glucocorticoid receptors (GR) expression was also assessed.
