Abstract

This study is to illustrate the pitfalls and techniques in thyroid US and to correlate the result of thyroid aspiration. The cases of this study were collected and reviewed retrospectively from our archives. All of the sonographic examinations were performed with high-frequency (7 to 15 MHz) linear array transducers. We illustrate the usual blind area of thyroid US and how to overcome this problem. Moreover, we discuss the correlation the US findings of thyroid nodules with the results of thyroid aspiration and suggest the management of thyroid nodules. Also we illustrate the normal structures mimicking the lesions and pitfalls associated performances. The knowledge of the pitfalls of thyroid US is important to avoid the misdiagnosis. And the correlation the US findings of thyroid nodules with the results of thyroid aspiration can aid in the patient's management.
