Abstract
This chapter discusses current developments and latest applied solid–liquid separation (SLS) technologies and equipment used for coal. The chapter commences with classification of the different SLS technologies used and pretreatment applied, such as thickening, coagulation, and flocculation. It then describes all types of commonly used filters, including vacuum and pressure types, centrifuges such as vibrating basket, screen-scroll, screen bowl, and solid bowl types with their applications for different coal size fraction or coal tailings. An overview of nonmechanical technologies such as coal drying is given before the chapter closes with discussing emerging and future trends in SLS within the coal industry.
