Abstract

This chapter briefly describes activities related to small modular nuclear reactor research and development and deployment in Argentina. Since the 1950s Argentina has developed and constructed research reactors. This activity was very successful and many research reactors were exported. Small and medium reactors based on heavy water reactors were installed, and many facilities were constructed. Since the 1980s Argentina is developing CAREM Project. This project consists on the development, design, and construction of small nuclear power plants based on integrated pressurized water reactors. CAREM prototype is under construction.
